The Tarahumara are a remote people who live in the Sierra Madre nearly untouched by the outside world.
Our team went to Creel, Mexico to start an apple orchard for a Tarahumara man named Enrique and his family.
Here is his story:
When Enrique was young he knew he would inherit a portion of his father’s land and dreamed of having an apple orchard. Coming from an impoverished family he knew he couldn’t afford it, so it remained an untouchable dream. He encountered my Dad at age 14 but got lost in drugs and gangs by the age 16. After a hard few years, he had a returning to relationship with my Father with an experience similar to the Prodigal Son story. Some time after building relationship with my Dad he had a vivid dream of his family’s dried up natural spring, where they collect water for their needs. In his dream the dry spring spurted up into firework-like life, sprinkling water everywhere. He could never understand how the dream would come true. For as long as he could remember, the spring had always been low. It seemed impossible.
Without our team knowing any of this information, my Dad told us to go to Creel to prepare the way for an apple orchard on his land. We also dug a new system to redirect his water supply. After a heavy rain, the spring was full of water! Enrique told us that my Dad brought our team to bring to life the mystery of his dreams. Enrique is now an indigenous leader in knowledge of my Father and travels regularly to tell his people about Him.
Keep Enrique, his wife Marianita, and their daughter Betsabey in your thoughts. They are some of the first people to be friends with my Dad in their village.
